n this section we will discuss the
different types of finishes you will find in factory pre-finished flooring here on FloorMall.com.
There are 6 popular types of factory pre-finishes. They are
Acrylic Impregnated,
Acrylic-urethane,
Aluminum Oxide,
Ceramic,
Polyurethane and
UV-cured finishes.
Acrylic Impregnate
With Acrylic Impregnated prefinishes, acrylic monomers are injected into the
cell structure of the wood to give increased hardness and then finished with
a wear layer over the wood.
Acrylic-Urethane
With Acrylic-urethane you have a slightly different chemical make up than
polyurethane, but with similar benefits. Like polyurethane, acrylic-urethane
is applied as a wear layer which results in a clear, tough and durable finish.
Aluminum Oxide
When finishing with Aluminum Oxide, particles are added to the polyurethane
finish to increase the abrasion resistance of the wear layer. This has become
extremely popular on the better grades of hardwood floors.
Ceramic
Ceramic finishes incorporate an advanced finish technology that allows
the use of space-age ceramics to increase the abrasion resistance of the wear layer.
Polyurethane
Polyurethane is a clear, tough and durable finish that is applied as a wear layer.
UV-Cured
UV-cured floors are finished at the factory and the polyurethane finish is cured
with Ultra Violet lights instead of using heat.
We will continue in the next section as we discuss Job Site Finish Types.
